My projects

AI Bugs

I created this project as a member of the Artificial Intelligence Society at Brigham Young University - Idaho. I new a little about genetic machine learning algorithms and asked if I could give a live coding presentation on the subject, as a way to help myself and others grasp the idea a little more.

The code posted on GitHub is the end result of that presentation. Of course I cleaned it up a little afterwords and added nice comment blocks.

Shadow shapes

This projects started out a lot more simple. All you could do was create the shapes. They would then go flying up in the air and off the screen in some random direction and with a random rotation.

Not long after I had succeeded in my project I became interested in physics engines. It only followed that after a lot of practice with Box2D, this program needed some upgrades. The video below is the current product. It is intended to be displayed in a room like the one in the diagram that follows. It does pretty okay on my laptop using the built in webcam, though I'm sure a designated Graphics Card could help improve things.

One of the greatest achievements of this project was figuring out how threading worked and then how to apply it here. Since I last worked on this project I have taken a course which talked about threading and I could probably improve some things, none the less this does the trick.

Ball game

My ten year-old brother started getting curious about my programing, so I decided to show him how to do it. After a few smaller projects I wanted to show him what a physics engine was. Originally each object was hardcoded into an array list, and what was awesome was that he got to the point were he could create and add them without my help. The result was so cool I decided to surprise him by staying up that night and adding the menu on the right side of the screen. You can click and drag to create custom lines, place arrows, move both types of objects around, and right-click to delete the object your mouse is over. He liked it so much I reduced the frame rate to 30fps so that it wouldn't consume so much battery while he played with it. Maybe I will bring it up again in the future.

RSA Interface

This was a project for a discrete math class that I took. While the the requirement was to solve for the encryption and description keys without using any already made libraries, I got carried away with it and gave mine a nice GUI as well. The program also prompts the user for a location to save the encrypted/decrypted messages.

Screen Saver

This project was a Christmas gift to my wife (then girlfriend). It is just a screen saver, but one of the first projects I ever did with the intent of it being useful to someone who did not know much about coding.

Due to the nature of the OpenProcessing website, the code is not as fully operational as it really turned out to be. Also, the tabs in the IDE view do not stay organized.

Highschool Senior Project

For my senior project in high school I wanted to putt together both my software and hardware skills into one project. I designed the motherboard for an Arduino computer. You would be able to take notes on the mini computer, save them to the EEPROM onboard, and then send them to a computer via USB.

The project was not totally successful, however I did learn a great deal while building it and it did end up working to some degree.
